For your consideration is a handcrafted leather sheath for the Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter knife. The Bushcrafter is an awesome tool for the outdoor enthusiast, but the sheath provided by the manufacturer is a bit lacking for many people. This sheath is a major upgrade to the factory sheath, and provides you with a much more functional and durable carry solution for your 162 Bushcrafter. This is not intended to be a generic fit sheath. I made the pattern using the actual knife so I could achieve the best possible fit.
The sheath is made-to-order specifically for the 162 Bushcrafter using thick full-grain saddle leather tanned right here in the United States. It is sewn using high-strength polyester thread, reinforced with blackened solid brass rivets, and the dangle loop is attached using a welded steel D-ring. The sheath has a full-length welt to protect the stitching with a drain hole built in at the bottom. This detail is extremely important for the durability of the sheath because without it, your knife will easily cut the stitching. I also incorporate a loop for a sharpening rod or ferrocerium striker rod up to 3/8 inches in diameter. Edges are burnished by hand and protected with edge paint. The standard belt loop will fit belts up-to 2 1/4 inches wide. It is available in all of my standard colors: Saddle Tan, Light Brown, Medium Brown, Burgundy, and Black. It can also be made for right hand or left hand carry. There is also an option for a hand-sewn upgrade. Saddle stitching is a traditional hand-sewing technique that is known for its durability and classic look. I have made every effort for this sheath to be a highly durable and secure carry option for your knife.
Is the standard sheath option not quite what you need? Not a problem! I specialize in custom work and can adapt this design to suit your individual needs. Don't need the ferro rod loop? No problem. Need a removable dangle strap? I can do that. I have access to a wide variety of custom colors, including red, blue, green, purple, and pink. I can do contrast stitching in multiple colors. This sheath can also be customized with tooled borders, tooled designs, and/or your initials. In short, I can make this sheath in virtually any way you can imagine. Proper care for your leather goods will maximize the useful life of your items. Periodically condition your leather goods with a product that is designed for leather. Shep’s brand neatsfoot oil, Lexol, and my own “Dr. Rob’s Leather Balm” are my favorites.
If you get your leather item wet, be sure to allow it to dry naturally. Avoid using artificial heat sources because they can unnecessarily dry out the leather. Never ever try to dry your leather items in a microwave. You’ll cook it. Don’t ask how I know this. Just trust me. Once your item has dried, apply some oil or conditioner to replenish the oils in the leather.
Use just enough to moisturize the leather, not saturate it. Think about it like you would applying lotion to your skin.
I package most of items in a brown paper wrapping that hides the contents. I choose to use paper because it’s more eco-friendly than plastic and it doesn’t trap moisture, which could be left in the leather from the crafting process.
I do not currently provide unique gift wrapping as a standard option, but it may be an option I can add if the interest is there. Feel free to contact me with your requests.
I have the ability to small scale production work and would be happy to discuss opportunities for resale and/or corporate gifts. Please contact me with the details.
